PoE 3.29 Abyss farming works best when you commit Atlas passives to Abyss encounters, prepare maps your build can clear quickly, and support the route with map sustain. The reward improvements make Abyss a stronger source of POE currency through better chests and monster drops. Your results still depend on completing encounters reliably and keeping map preparation costs below the value of the rewards you collect.
Which reward changes affect the farm
Patch 3.29.1 improved Abyss chest rewards and gave Abyssal Depths bosses three reward chests. It also reduced variation in chest drop amounts and increased reward quality and quantity, with particular attention to currency and scarabs. These changes give you a clearer reason to finish encounters and enter Abyssal Depths when they appear.
Patch 3.29.2 increased the quantity of items dropped by defeated elite Abyss monsters. That improvement adds value to the monsters you fight during ordinary Abyss encounters, alongside the final rewards. Neither update establishes a fixed return per map, so stronger rewards should not be treated as a promise that every map will cover its cost.
Build the Atlas around encounters you can finish
An Abyss Atlas setup should prioritize passives that support Abyss appearances, encounter density, and rewards. Atlas passives are the points you allocate to shape the content and drops in your maps. Concentrating those points on Abyss gives your scarab investment more support than spreading the same points across several unrelated mechanics.
Keep map sustain in the setup while your Atlas is still developing. Map-drop and Kirac passives can support your supply of maps as you work toward a fuller Abyss specialization. Generic quantity and pack-size passives can also support the route, but the exact allocation should reflect how many points you have available.
Clear speed matters because Abyss encounters move through successive openings and require you to defeat the monsters that emerge. Follow the encounter until it ends, then collect its final reward or enter the Depths when available. A build that struggles to finish encounters should improve its damage or defenses before adding more paid encounters to each map.
Prepare maps without exhausting your supply
Choose maps that let your character reach and clear Abyss encounters with little interruption. Dense encounters are useful only when you can finish them consistently. A comfortable map tier is a better starting point than a harder tier that causes repeated deaths or lengthy fights.
Roll maps for item quantity within your build's limits. Quantity supports general drops, while pack-size effects increase the number of monsters available to defeat. Read the modifiers before opening each map: a difficult combination can turn an otherwise useful map into a slow run with unfinished encounters.
Use Atlas map-drop passives, socketed Voidstones, and Kirac's available maps to support your supply. Voidstones help raise map tiers, but a higher-tier Atlas does not by itself guarantee that your preferred map will replenish after every run. Track the maps you actually recover alongside your rewards, especially when moving into a more expensive setup.
When should you add more scarabs
Add Abyss scarabs once your Atlas investment and build can support the extra encounters or density their effects provide. Read each scarab's effect before combining it with your setup. Extra content increases the work inside a map as well as its potential rewards, so the useful choice depends on completion speed and purchase cost.
Start with a setup you can afford to repeat, then record map costs, scarab costs, rewards, and completion time across several runs. Distinguish items you can sell from items you intend to keep. A valuable drop can improve one session without proving that a more expensive setup produces steady income.
For your next session, prepare a small batch of manageable maps and set a spending limit in POE chaos orbs for maps and scarabs. Run the batch, compare the recovered value with that cost, and check whether your map supply held up. Increase investment only when encounter completion, returns, and map sustain support repeating the setup.
